An tried coup was foiled early Wednesday early morning in Niamey, the capital of Niger, federal government representative Zakaria Abdourahaman stated in a news release on Wednesday afternoon.

“Several people in connection with this coup attempt have already been arrested and others actively searched,” Abdourahaman stated.

According to him, examinations are being performed to determine and hound the offenders and their accomplices.

“The government condemns this cowardly and retrograde attack aiming to endanger the democracy and the rule of law to which our country is resolutely committed,” he stated.

On behalf of the federal government, he assured that the scenario is completely under control, and the population can set about their lives generally.

Abdourahaman likewise praised the governmental guard and the defense and security forces for their timely response, which showed their commitment and their fidelity to the Republic.

Abdourahaman did not expose if the tried coup had actually triggered any casualties or the factors behind the tried coup.
